The Fifth CEARAC Focal Points Meeting

The Fifth CEARAC Focal Points Meeting was held on the 18th and 19th of September 2007 in Toyama, Japan. About 20 experts and authorities including the members of FPM, representatives of NOWPAP RACs and others participated in the meeting. Following the opening addresses, the Director of CEARAC reported the implementation and expenditure of CEARAC activities for the 2006-2007 biennium. After clarification of one element in the budget chart, the meeting agreed on the report.
Following this report, the draft workplan and budget of CEARAC activities for the 2008-2009 biennium were explained. The workplan included 5 proposals of new activities. The meeting requested some changes (such as changing the title of an activity and changing terminology in definitions) during discussion and agreed on submission of them to the 12th NOWPAP IGM.
The draft mid- and long-term strategies of CEARAC and goals of NOWPAP WG3 and WG4 prepared based on the request at the 4th CEARAC FPM were explained. The meeting agreed on the documents in general. Besides, the draft guidelines on establishment and disbanding of Working Groups of CEARAC, which had also been requested for its preparation in the 4th FPM was presented. After discussion, the meeting agreed on the draft guidelines. Further discussion on the operation of the present WG3 and WG4 will be scheduled for the next biennium.
